Every evening, on the banks of the river Ganges in Haridwar, an aarthi (a Hindu ritual of offering of fire) is performed as a homage to the great Ganga which quenches the thirst of millions of people in India.
It is performed at the Dashashwamedh ghat and involves a group of priests in saffron coloured robes singing hymns in the praise of Goddess Ganga and circling of incense sticks and large flaming lamps which looks elegant in the dark atmosphere. The movement of the flaming lamps perfectly match the Vedic hymns and the acts and rituals performed by all the priest synchronize perfectly. It is a spectacular view and is best viewed from a boat on the river. People start arriving on the ghats as early as 5:00 PM to get a better view.
